OMOTESANDO HILLS is a cultural and commercial complex that opened in 2006, featuring a mix of retail spaces, galleries, and residential units. The site was originally home to the Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments, built as part of the reconstruction efforts following the Great Kanto Earthquake. These apartments were a rare example of reinforced-concrete residential buildings at the time and served as a landmark on Omotesando for more than 70 years.
Consequently, there were many calls to preserve the building, and on the east side of OMOTESANDO HILLS, the Dojunkan was constructed, incorporating restored walls and stair railings from the Aoyama Apartments, thereby preserving elements of its original appearance. World-renowned architect Tadao Ando was involved in its design.
The commercial facilities span three basement levels and three above-ground floors. At the center is an atrium-style corridor that extends all the way down to the basement; this corridor features a gentle slope, creating a unique design where visitors can reach the next floor almost without realizing it simply by walking.
Here, renowned Japanese and international brands showcase the latest trends. The urban and sophisticated restaurants are also worth a visit. Additionally, the Dojunkan gallery hosts a variety of exhibitions and art events.
