Yoyogi Park

Yoyogi Park is a lush urban oasis. The area was once military land and home to the Yoyogi Drill Ground.
After World War II, it became Washington Heights, a residential complex for the U.S. forces occupying Japan. When the land was returned in 1964, it was used as the Athletes’ Village for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Yoyogi Park officially opened in 1967, three years after the Olympics.
The park is divided by a road into Area A to the north and Area B to the south.
Area A, a forested park, features beautiful cherry blossoms in spring and ginkgo-lined avenues in autumn, as well as a vast lawn-covered Central Plaza and a bird sanctuary.
The outdoor stage and event plaza in Area B host festivals from around the world almost every weekend, attracting large crowds.
