KIDDY LAND Harajuku Store
KIDDY LAND started out as a bookstore.
Today, it is a specialty toy store where you can find the latest trends.
KIDDY LAND is filled with character merchandise from Japan and around the world. Although it is now widely known as a toy store, it actually began as a bookstore.
Its founder, Koichiro Hashidate, opened a small bookstore in Omotesando in 1950. At the time, the area south of Meiji Shrine was home to many U.S. military families, and most of his customers were foreigners.
By selling traditional Japanese souvenirs such as Hakata dolls and kokeshi dolls alongside products from the neighboring toy shop, the business achieved great success.
Since then, KIDDY LAND has continued to evolve with changing trends and consumer interests, rapidly expanding as a specialty retailer of toys and character goods.
The store also played a role in introducing events such as Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day to Japan, helping establish the idea that “if you go to KIDDY LAND, you’re sure to find something fun and exciting.”
Today, the Harajuku flagship store is packed with merchandise from the basement level through the fourth floor. The first floor, in particular, showcases the latest trends and cutting-edge items, making it an ideal place to discover what is currently popular.
