Overlooking Oyunuma, you can see Mt. Hiyoriyama, where the white surface of rough rocks are exposed in the northwest. Oyunuma is a crater created when this mountain erupted in the past and the part of the mountain was blown off in the explosion.
Water at temperatures reaching 130 degrees Celcius spouts out from the bottom of the swamp that is approximately 22 meters deep, and the temperature drops to around 40 to 50 degrees as the water reaches the surface. Depending on the season, white steam will fog up the area and you will find yourself in a swamp from hell, as hot air will appear as if its evaporating off your skin. On the east side across the parking lot for Oyunuma, there is another crater site called Okunoyu. It is about 30 meters in diameter, which is quite small compared to Oyunuma, but the surface temperature is very high, ranging from 75 to 85 degrees. The hot water flowing out of Oyunuma becomes a river and gradually lowers in temperature, so you can dip your feet in along the trail.
Please try this natural footbath of rich in sulfur.
