Roadside Station Genbikei is located within the Ichinoseki Onsen Resort area, often referred to as the “southern gateway” to Iwate Prefecture. It is also affectionately known as the “Village of Mochi and Hot Springs.”
Situated near Genbikei Gorge, a nationally designated scenic spot, the station offers rest areas and a multipurpose hall, making it a convenient stop for visitors traveling to and from the gorge.
Among its highlights are a farmers’ market featuring fresh local produce and an exhibition space dedicated to mochi culture. The station is especially well known as a place to enjoy regional mochi dishes.
At the on-site restaurant “Pettan-kun,” the popular “Japanese-style Mochi Set” offers eight different varieties of mochi, allowing visitors to experience a wide range of traditional flavors.
Through these offerings, the station aims to establish itself as Japan’s leading destination for mochi culture.
