Neo Park Okinawa
An Open, Airy Space
A Nature Theme Park Where People Blend In with Nature
Neo Park Okinawa is a nature-themed park where visitors can observe free-roaming animals up close inside enormous net-covered areas known as “Flying Cages.”
The park’s exhibit zones—including areas inspired by Africa, the Amazon, and Oceania—recreate environments that closely resemble the animals’ natural habitats by incorporating a rich variety of native plants.
Many rare animals live freely here, including the roseate spoonbill—found nowhere else in Japan—and the vividly colored toco toucan, often called the “Jewel of the Amazon.”
One of the park’s greatest attractions is the opportunity to interact directly with the animals. Birds may suddenly fly right past you, while friendly capybaras and peccaries—animals resembling wild boars—will eagerly approach one after another when offered food.
Incidentally, it is not widely known that Okinawa once had a railway system before the war. At Neo Park Okinawa, the former light railway affectionately known as the “Keibin” has been recreated on a smaller scale.
“Nago Station,” which serves as both the departure and arrival point of the attraction, is based on a “phantom station” that was originally planned before the war but was never actually built after the project was halted during the planning stage.
