RyukyuMura is a theme park designed to evoke Okinawa around the end of the Meiji era.
Since opening in 1982, the park has relocated and reconstructed numerous traditional houses from across Okinawa Prefecture. The sound of the sanshin, a traditional three-stringed instrument, drifts from beneath the open eaves. Shisa guardian figures sit atop the roofs, while traditional sugar-making demonstrations use water buffalo. Together, these sights and sounds preserve the nostalgic image of old Okinawa that many people cherish.
One of the highlights is Eisa, a traditional Okinawan performing art. The park also offers a wide variety of hands-on activities that allow visitors to experience Okinawan culture. With the many attractions of Okinawan tourism gathered in one place, RyukyuMura offers a full day of fun.
Just before the entrance is Okinawa no Eki Champuru, a roadside rest area that is ideal for taking a break. It also has a shop where visitors can enjoy shopping.
