Near Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station, there’s a place where you can take a stroll across time and space. This is the Yokkaichi Municipal Museum・Planetarium, affectionately known by the collective name Sorampo Yokkaichi, which also includes the Yokkaichi Pollution and Environmental Museum for Future Awareness.
In the museum area, a variety of exhibits offer visitors a deeper understanding of Yokkaichi’s history.
Among them, the permanent exhibition Jikū Kaidō (Road Through Time and Space) is especially recommended. It recreates life in Yokkaichi from prehistoric and ancient times through the Edo period in full scale.
Visitors can enjoy the feeling of traveling back in time to experience each historical period and setting.
Another attraction of Sorampo Yokkaichi is the opportunity to relax and refresh at the planetarium.
Recreating a star-filled sky that is remarkably close to the real night sky, the planetarium projects approximately 140 million stars and was once recognized by Guinness World Records.
The facility also houses the permanent exhibition Yokkaichi Pollution and Environmental Museum for Future Awareness, which presents the history of Yokkaichi from the Meiji era to the present from an environmental perspective.
