Based on the concept of “Connecting Minds and the World,” Postal Museum Japan is a museum where visitors can enjoy learning about the history and culture of postal services and communications.
The museum’s permanent exhibition is divided into six themed “worlds” exploring the history of postal services and related topics. It displays approximately 400 items relating to postal services in Japan and overseas, along with some 330,000 different types of stamps. The museum also has a special exhibition gallery and a multipurpose space for small exhibitions and events.
The history of Japan’s postal services, postal savings, and postal life insurance is presented through historical materials and exhibits. These include a replica of Japan’s first postbox, known as the “Letter Collection Box,” and a replica of Japan’s oldest surviving automatic vending machine for postage stamps and postcards.
The museum also offers a variety of original interactive exhibits.
At the “Go!Go! Postman” mail delivery simulator, visitors can experience what it is like to deliver mail.
The special exhibition gallery hosts exhibitions and events around four or five times a year.
